How to Meezoog

Meezoog is not your average dating site. It's a place where you use your connections with friends to find quality matches. The following How-Tos will help guide you through our unique network.

Starting Meezoog

How to create an appealing Meezoog profile

The first step towards a great date is creating an honest and attractive profile. Here are five simple ways to make your Meezoog profile POP:
  1. Put your best face forward. You can add as many photos as you like to your Gallery and keep in mind - they are the first thing people will check out when visiting your profile!
  2. Talk about yourself: Don't be shy! When you first joined, you were asked to fill out two important areas called "About Me" and "What I do." Probably you were in a hurry to reach the site so didn't elaborate much. Now is a great time to say it - tell people who you really are in your own words.
  3. Have fun with the questions and answers: Meezoog has a cool feature that lets you create questions for anyone to answer. Moreover, your questions can travel throughout the site and appear in other members' profiles. Some people's questions have been answered by over a thousand members! You can even keep track of your questions' statistics to see how popular they are.
  4. Add tags: Tags allow members to find each other based on words or phrases that describe their interests. For example, you can tag your profile with the words "skiing," "music," or "world domination planning." Then, when members click on one of your tags, they will be able to reach your profile.
  5. Share your YouTube videos: If you have a YouTube account, why not share your videos here in Meezoog? With just a click of a button, you can add both your YouTube favorites and personal uploads to your Meezoog profile.

How to add interesting questions to your profile

Instead of answering the same old questions you find in dating site forms, Meezoog lets you ask the questions and other members provide the answers. So not only can you create your own questions, but they can actually travel throughout the site and appear in other members' profiles. Some people's questions have been answered by over a thousand members!

How to do it? Go to "My Profile" and click the 'My Questions' icon in the Actions area. On that page you will see all a list of questions members have added as well as the option to add your own question to the list. At the top of the page there is also a link to Question Statisticss which lets you see which questions have been answered the most.

How to improve your social connectivity

How to Manage Your Privacy Settings

Meezoog gives you complete control over your privacy. First, you can choose between a Private or Public membership, and then you can select more granular (detailed) settings to tailor your specific preferences.

Public Membership means that you can see and be seen by all site members, both with and without Trust Paths, just like in any other dating site. The difference on PirateDate is that when displaying your results, members who have a connection to you through friends (aks, "members with Trust Paths") will always be displayed first.

Private Membership means that you can only see and be seen by members in your network. Members in your network are only those with whom you share a Trust Path (or a link to through friends in any number of degrees of separation.) If you select Private Membership, it's critical that you connect with a number of friends in order that you see results.

To manage your settings, go to the "My Profile" page and click on the Account Tab. Then click the link "Change Privacy Settings."

Building Trust

How to play it safe

Meezoog is the first dating network to use social trust as a powerful tool against spammers, scammers and other shady characters. Here are 4 important tips for playing it safe:

  1. Only connect to people you know.

Connect to your friends in real life – not new singles you find on the site. Also, do not accept friend requests from people you do not know. Your friend connections are used to generate indirect connections to their friends and real singles in links called Trust Paths.

  2. Use your Trust Paths

Trust Paths show you the chain of friends linking you to new singles. Talk to the people along the path, whether they are your friends or even friends of friends, to ask questions and get opinions.

  3. Look for warning signs:

    a. People who are missing: Vouchers, Trust Paths or Social Proximity

    b. People who ask for your email address and to chat with you outside the site.

    c. People who flatter you gratuitously and have broken language skills – people whose profiles just don't sound right to you.

  4. 4. Choose your level of security:

We won't dictate your privacy settings but we give you the tools to empower your own security – for example it's up to you whether you want a public network that's larger in quantity but includes people without Trust Paths, or a private network that's a smaller, but a more trusted group of potential partners.

If you come across anyone suspicious, make sure to let us know. We're working hard to promote safety with built-in features on our end, but you need to use your good judgment as well.

How to see a huge network of trusted singles

You can add thousands of new singles to your network in very little time by simply inviting or connecting with a few of your Facebook friends. It's that easy. Every person you invite or connect with brings all of their single friends into your network. And, because in Meezoog you can browse all the single friends, of friends, of friends of friends (etc) - your dating pool of REAL people connected to one another is virtually endless!

How do I use Trust Paths

Everyone in your Meezoog network is connected to you through a Trust Path. Trust Paths are chains of friends who vouch for one another. For example, Bob is friends with Katie, who is the sister of Mark, who works with Angie. Thus Bob and Angie are connected through a Trust Path of three degrees. If Bob wants information on Katie or an introduction, he can approach the people in the path. Your Trust Paths to every member are displayed on the member's profile.

The markers between individual members along the path demonstrate the strength of their personal connection. A very strong connection indicates that two members are very close in real life whereas a weak connection signifies that the two are further apart. For details, simply hover over a photo.

We display trust paths in up to 4 degrees of separation between Meezoog members and up to 5 degrees with Facebook users. When you run a search on Meezoog, you will see your results ordered first by those members with whom you do share a trust path, followed by those members with whom you don't.

You can decide whether to include or exclude members without trust paths from your network in your privacy settings.

How do I create more Trust Paths

If you do not have a trust path with a member you find interesting, it essentially means that there are no mutual contacts you can turn to in order to ask for more information about the person or an introduction. Trust Paths are thus important because not only can they save you valuable time and energy, they also makes online dating safer.

To create more trust paths between yourself and other members, you first need to connect and vouch for people you already know in Meezoog, the people that make up your "inner circle." You will then be connected to all of their single friends and so on, until you are connected via trust paths to virtually everyone in the network. You can find your friends on the Connect Page.

How to view Social Proximity

Social Proximity is a value that measures how closely connected members are based on the nature of their real life relationships. This unique indicator takes into consideration subjective and objective factors such as the type of relationship, the duration of the relationship, the number of mutual friends, Trust Paths, and more.

The Social Proximity Gage appears on every member's profile page. Also, Meezoog search results are ordered such that members with a higher social proximity to you appear first. The reason for this is to help you discover new singles who are more closely connected to people you know. You can see not only who knows who, but how well they know each other. With this knowledge, you can get advice, opinions or request introductions from people who really know the people behind interesting profiles.

Keep in mind that Meezoog calculates Social Proximity based on the information members provide. If you come across a value that you feel does not reflect your proximity to someone you know on Meezoog, then be sure to edit your connection to that member in order to more accurately reflect your relationship, both for your benefit and everyone else's.

How to vouch for your friends

Once you connect to someone, you will be asked to vouch for them and vice versa. By vouching for someone, you are not only claiming that the person is trustworthy, but also how well you know each other in real life. Meezoog then uses the information to determine your "social proximity", a value which reflects that level of closeness to other members.

How to know if a person you find is "real" or trustworthy

Meezoog gives you three unique indicators as to whether someone you find interesting is a good character, all of which are located on the member's profile:

  1. Members who have more vouchers in Meezoog are considered more trustworthy. You can approach a voucher to get more information about a member you are interested in.
  2. The Social Proximity value indicates the member's trustworthiness based on the number of mutual friends you have and the strength of those connections (ie a close friend is ranked higher than a cyber-friend). Learn more
  3. Meezoog shows you the path of human connections between members. This allows you to approach mutual friends or the friends of friends to get the scoop on members you find interesting.

Connecting to Friends

How to connect to your friends in Meezoog

In Meezoog, we date the friends of our friends. That is why it is so important to connect with as many as you can - so that you will be exposed to more people and potential dates. There are several ways to connect with friends:
  1. If you come across a profile of someone you know, simply click the "I know this person!" link to make the connection.
  2. Use the friend finder to see who you know in Meezoog through your email contacts.
  3. Invite friends to join Meezoog and bring all of their single friends with them.
  4. Connect to a larger network with your work or university email address.

How to connect with Facebook

The option to connect with Facebook will appear in Meezoog's main page whenever you are not already connected. When you connect, Meezoog will show you the singles on Facebook who are friends with your friends AND friends with other Meezoog members. You can also see how you are connected to them in the Trust Paths as well as search them according to your criteria. Pretty cool, huh?

Facebook profiles are marked in Facebook's signature blue and visible throughout the site once you've connected. Keep in mind however that the number of profiles you'll see is dependent on the number of connections you have and that to maintain user privacy, you will only see information that Facebook allows.

How to invite friends to Meezoog

Validated Meezoog members receive a number of invitations they can send to friends to join Meezoog. Why is it limited? Unlike the open dating sites, Meezoog creates an atmosphere of trusted dating - that is, where friends bring other single friends they know would make good additions to the community. Thus, we prefer having a few quality people than multitudes of strangers who will inevitably include spammers and fake profilers.

If you'd like to ask for more invitations, click here.

If you have invitations, simply click on the Invite link in the main navigation bar at the top of the screen. You can then add the email addresses to send your friends a personal message to join Meezoog.

How do I block someone

To block someone from seeing you in their search results and contacting you, go to their profile page and click the red thumbs down icon at the top right corner of the profile. Click the same icon again in order to unblock the member. You can also see and manage your blocked list by going to "My Network" and clicking the "Blocked" tab.
